The conversion of a dilapidated Victorian mews building to create high quality residential and retail accommodation.

An existing, very run down, mews building in Bloomsbury was restored and extended to provide four flats and a roof terrace over the upper three floors, with new retail spaces filling the ground floor and basement. The new building incorporated the existing structure, adding a further two storeys built from a lightweight timber frame hung from a principle steel structure. The new elevation referenced the local mixture of building types, including Georgian houses and Victorian warehouse buildings, and tied new and old parts of the building together with a rendered elevation and shadow gap representing the parapet height of the existing building.
