Adding to the emerging regeneration of the local area, Gresford Architects has delivered this new six-storey mixed-use building in Hackney. The scheme optimises the previously underutilised brownfield site and delivers much needed affordable, high-quality office space and open market residential accommodation to the borough.

The façade of the simple and elegant building gives a sense of solidity to echo original warehouse typologies common to its canal-side location. It sits sensitively within its surrounding context and enhances the character and appearance of its conservation area location.

The external material palette has been selected to further reinforce this language in a contemporary manner. Brick for the upper storeys is laid on a single-storey concrete plinth, distinguishing a change in use from the commercial space at lower level to the residential units above. Fenestration details to all floors are framed in dark aluminium to complement the brick body of the building.
