Gresford Architects have modernised and extended this property with the addition of a new, spacious open plan kitchen and dining area, and a basement extension housing a new playroom, bringing the property up to contemporary standards.

Steps from a revived entrance hall now lead down into a newly excavated ground floor level housing a new kitchen and living area and offering uninterrupted views and access out to the garden at the rear of the home. The existing living room now overlooks the new kitchen from above, divided only by a timber balustrade installed within the original internal opening. This creates a spacious, volume with impressive visual connections across communal family spaces. A new light well has been excavated beneath the living room bay window on the street facing elevation to allow light to reach a new playroom below.

Externally, the extension takes shape as a simple rectangular form constructed in Portland Stone, minimising its visual impact upon the host building and neighbouring houses.
