The extension and refurbishment of a coach house in East London. This detached house sits in a wonderful oasis protected from the outside world by the back gardens of houses in the surrounding streets. The proposal was for the complete transformation of the extended Victorian coach house which occupies the site. The design incorporates three major moves; firstly, complete internal refurbishment; secondly, recladding of all external surfaces (principally replacing synthetic tiles on vertical walls with new timber cladding as well as new zinc roofs and new windows and glazing); and thirdly, three new areas of extension — a new second floor master bedroom suite, an indoor swimming pool and a basement level cinema and gym.
